PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll production method by which the oxidation of the outer circumference of a core material is suppressed and adhesion between the core material and molten metal is made satisfactory, consequently a roll having stable quality can be produced. SOLUTION: The roll production method is provided by which a core material 12 is concentrically, vertically inserted into a combined mold 11 where a cooling mold 20 is integrally arranged beneath a refractory heating mold 19 provided with an electromagnetic induction heating coil 10, molten metal 13 is poured into an annular gap part 23 around the core material 12, the core material 12 is lowered, and, while welding the molten metal 13 to the outer circumference of the core material 12, the molten metal is solidified, thus a tinkered build-up welded layer 14 is formed, wherein the outer circumference of the core material 12 is beforehand coated with an oxidation preventive coating material 15 whose melting point is higher than the surface temperature of the preheated core material 12 and also lower than the liquidus temperature of the metal to be formed into the molten metal 13.
