PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dishwasher which has an elevating and lowering means with a simple structure and elevates and lowers a dish basket vertically over a wider range. SOLUTION: The dishwasher has an outer frame body, a washing chamber which moves in and out of the outer frame body by moving back and forth, a guide means for guiding to move the washing chamber in and out of the outer frame body, the dish basket placed in the washing chamber, and an elevating and lowering means for elevating and lowering the dish basket vertically. The elevating and lowering means is characterized with a rack provided vertically in the washing chamber, a pinion which meshes with the rack and moves vertically by rotating, and a driving means for driving the pinion.
