[Also in Divisions F1 and F2] A loading-arm structure 20 includes a first conduit 26 connected to a second conduit 34 by a horizontal pivot, at 32, from which the second conduit projects in a forward direction and a counter-balance mechanism 50 comprising a housing 52 fixed to one of the conduits and containing spring means which tensions a coupling 90 pivotally connected to a bracket 102 on the other conduit by a pin 100 which is positioned above and to the rear of the said horizontal pivot so as to apply to the second conduit 34 a turning moment opposing and substantially equal to that due to gravity. A swivel pipejoint 28 similar to 32 but turning on a vertical axis connects the first conduit 26 to a riser pipe 22. A pipe joint 42 turning about an axis parallel to (Fig. 1) or perpendicular to (Fig. 8, not shown) that at 32 connects a spout 36 to the conduit 34, either directly (Fig. 10) or by way of an additional conduit and pipe joint (Fig. 8, not shown). In another embodiment the joint 42 is mounted on a conduit which slides telescopically within the tube 34 (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown). A valve 44 in conduit 34 is operable by a handle 46, or remotely at 49, to control flow. The counter-balance 50 has springs 72 mounted on guide-rods 62 which are bolted to one end-plate 60 of the housing 52 and compressed between washers 69 on the rods 62 and a plate 68 sliding on them. The coupling chain 90 is adjustably connected by a bolt 92 to the other end-plate 58 of the housing and after passing over a sprocket 86 carried on the plate 68 connects to the pin 100. Alternatively the chain may connect the plate 68 directly to the pin 100 (Fig. 5, not shown). An adjustable stop-screw 74 for the plate 68 is mounted in the end-plate 60. Where, due to the telescopic tube or to the additional section of conduit between the conduit 34 and the spout 36 previously mentioned, the outward swing of the structure can be changed, means are provided whereby the moment of the compensating force can be adjusted accordingly. These means comprise a link 170 interposed between the bracket 102 and the end of the chain 90 with an adjustable stop-screw 174 which abuts the surface of the plate 102 or the elbow 26 when the vertical elevation of the conduit 34 is below a predeter. mined value. The springs 72 and guide rods 62 of the counter-balance 50 may be replaced by tubular rubber sleeves (Fig. 6, not shown).</p>
