<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering system for a vehicle having high practicality. <P>SOLUTION: This steering system is equipped with a shock absorbing device for absorbing an impact of collision of a driver with a steering operation member, and a steering lock device 100 for prohibiting rotation of steering shafts 50, 52 for retaining the operation member. The steering lock device 100 has a function of changing the shock absorbing characteristics of the shock absorbing device. Specifically, an engagement body 102 in which the lock device 100 is provided at a rear portion tube 54 is driven to allow the rotation of the shafts, for example, and the engagement body 102 is engaged with a front portion tube 56 corresponding to contraction of the tube to change the size of shock absorbing load as the shock absorbing characteristics by changing between the condition in which resistance caused by deformation of the front portion tube 56 is generated and the condition in which the engagement body 102 is not engaged with the front portion tube 56 and the resistance against the contraction of the tube is not generated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
