PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a thermoplastic resin composition that has no fear of an increase in melt viscosity taking place during the step of mixing a thermoplastic resin having a high molecular weight with fine inorganic particles at a high concentration, facilitates taking away the product, i.e., the thermoplastic resin composition from its production process and gives a production of a thermoplastic resin composition excellent in transparency. SOLUTION: The process for producing a thermoplastic resin composition comprises removing an organic solvent from an organic solvent-containing thermoplastic resin composition comprising a thermoplastic resin containing an oxygen atom in a repeating unit of the polymer chain, fine inorganic particles and an organic solvent having the thermoplastic resin dissolved therein, wherein the organic solvent includes as an essential component one organic solvent satisfying the following requirements (1)-(3) at the same time: (1) the organic solvent has a solubility parameter (δ) of 18-25 [represented by a unit of (MPa)<SP>1/2</SP>]; (2) the organic solvent has a boiling point at atmospheric pressure of 90°C or higher; and (3) the organic solvent is an organic compound which has at least one atom selected from the group consisting of an oxygen atom and a nitrogen atom, free from a primary amino group and a secondary amino group in the molecular structure.
