PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat sliding door unit which has a simple structure that can smoothly move even a heavy door panels in a balanced manner, and is excellent in strength, workability, and cost efficiency. SOLUTION: The flat sliding door unit has two rails which are linearly formed and arranged in parallel with each other. One of the two rails is a fixed rail 3 from which a first door panel 1 is hung in a manner linearly sliding along the same, and the other is a movable rail 4 from which a second door panel 2 is hung in a manner linearly sliding along the same. The movable rail 4 is held so as to be almost horizontally movable in a direction orthogonal to an axis of the movable rail 4 via a rail moving means. Therefore when the door unit is in a closed state, the second door panel 2 hung from the movable rail 4 is arranged so as to be flush with the first door panel 1, and when the door unit is in an open state, the second door panel 2 is superposed on the first door panel 1 in a double sliding manner.
