PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible in a method for directly obtaining polyimide microparticles by the thermal imidization of a polyamic acid solution to obtain polyimide microparticles having relatively monodisperse fine particle diameters and to obtain polyimide microparticles without using any thermal imidization catalyst difficultly removable from the reaction solution and without using an azeotropic solvent to remove the formed water. SOLUTION: The method for producing polyimide microparticles is one comprising subjecting a polyamic acid solution to thermal imidization to deposit polyimide microparticles from the solution, wherein the thermal imidization is performed by heating the polyamic acid solution under ultrasound irradiation.
