PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which can measure the using time of an electronic endoscope without complicating a structure, and is applied widely. SOLUTION: The electronic endoscope 10 is provided with a video signal processing IC 13 for performing a signal processing for image signals obtained by image pickup and outputting vertical synchronizing signals, and a first CPU 15 for measuring the using time on the basis of the number of times of the output of the vertical synchronizing signals. The first CPU 15 measures the using time by temporarily storing first and second counters corresponding to the number of times of the output of the vertical synchronizing signals, adding 1 to the value of the first counter every time the vertical synchronizing signal is outputted, turning the first counter to 0 and adding 1 to the value of the second counter every time the value of the first counter becomes a first parameter or larger, and turning the second counter to 0 and adding 1 to the using time every time the value of the second counter becomes a second parameter or larger. The value of the first parameter is set corresponding to a vertical synchronizing frequency equivalent to the interval of the output of the vertical synchronizing signals.
