A glass is fused from a mix comprising a foundation glass mixture of TeO2 with MgO and with or without MgF2, the proportion of TeO2 comprising between 77 and 99% by weight inclusively of the foundation glass mixture and the proportion of MgO/sBMgF2 being between 1 and 23% inclusively of the foundation glass mixture, the proportion of MgO/sBMgF2 being up to 15% of the total mix and the proportion of TeO2 being at least 50% of the total mix, the balance being at least one of the oxides or fluorides of Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn and Cd. Both oxide and fluoride may be present. |
