1,268,071. Non woven fabric; paper. MONSANTO CO. 8 April, 1969 [11 April, 1968], No. 17903/69. Headings D1R and D2B. Synthetic linear polyamide articles are bonded by contacting them with a gas dissolved in an inert liquid in which the gas remains substantially unionised, the gas being able to disrupt the intermolecular bonds between adjacent -NHCO- linkages without appreciably disrupting covalent bonds within the polymeric chains of the polyamide, and removing the gas' from the articles while they are in contact so as to bond them together. The gas may be HCI, HBr, BF 3 , BCl 3 , Cl 2 , SO 3 , N 2 O 3 or NO 2 . The inert liquid can be acetone, ether, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, pentane, trichlorofluoromethane or heptane. The gas and inert liquid can be removed by heating or washing. The articles may be filaments, pellicles or granules. The filaments can be staple or continuous and be formed into a web on a Rando Webber, carding or paper-making machine, or by air-laying. The web can be pressed to assist contact during bonding.
|
