A process for the heat-treatment e.g. polymerization and curing of artificial resin impregnations or steaming of lengths of textile material comprises passing a gaseous treatment medium through the material passing over a perforated suction drum during a heating-up stage and subsequently maintaining the treatment temperature on the material by leading the material through a moving treatment atmosphere in a series of loops or in a spiral path. In a preferred embodiment of apparatus, a closed housing 1 is subdivided by a partition 2 into a treatment chamber and a fan chamber. In the treatment chamber twosieve drums 6 subjected to suction are provided, followed by an upper and lower series of rollers 10. Treatment medium is withdrawn from the interior of the drums and returns to the treatment chamber via heaters, angled baffles 12 and sieve plates 11. In a further embodiment, a fan is correlated to the storing zone, and the lower series of rollers may be omitted. In a further embodiment, the treatment chamber is subdivided into a heating-up zone and a material storage zone. Two sieve drums are provided in the heating-up zone and are positioned one above the other. The material is passed in a dowble spiral through the storage zone, a sieve drum being provided as a reversing roll. The temperature in the heating-up zone is higher than that in the storage zone.
