1,157,212. Rocket motor unit. BOFORS A.B. 16 Jan., 1967 [21 Jan., 1966], No. 2241/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions B8, C1 and F3] A process for making a coherent unit, and in particular a rocket motor which burns from one end only, comprises introducing granular material e.g. nitrocellulose powder into the open upper end of a tubular member 1 which is closed at its lower end by a rubber disc 3 fastened by adhesive to an inwardly directed flange 2, placing a perforated disc 5 over the granular material, and injecting a liquid substance e.g. nitroglycerine into the spaces between the grains by inserting a cannula 8 through the rubber disc and pumping the liquid material supplied via the pipe 11 into the tubular member 1 with the aid of a fluid actuated piston 16. On withdrawing the point 9 of the cannula from the disc, the hole in the disc closes automatically owing to the elasticity of the disc. The materials in the tubular member stiffen to form a single rigid unit which may or may not be fixed to the tubular member 1. The tubular member 1 and the flange 2 may be made of cellulose acetate.
