A substance useful as a medicine is obtained by subjecting raw garlic cloves (freed from the epidermis) to dry distillation in a non- oxidising atmosphere (e.g. under vacuum) at a temperature below 250‹C. to produce a liquid distillate and a partially carbonized residue which has medicinal properties and may be incorporated into preparations for external or internal administration in the treatment of "pimple", "smudge" and roundworm, beri-beri and numerous other diseases and conditions. The liquid distillate is also stated to be medicinally useful for treating skin diseases and for disinfecting seeds, seedlings and agricultural produce promoting plant germination and as a fertilizer. |
