<p>The present invention relates to a compact rear projection type image display device comprising a projection optical unit 4, the projection optical unit including a white light source, a light beam splitting portion, an image display element, a light beam synthesizing portion and a projection lens, a drive circuit in a chassis 8 for driving the image display element, a turn-back mirror 7 for reflecting the light beam projected from the projection lens and directing the light beam to a screen 6, a housing 5 for housing therein the projection optical unit, the drive circuit and the turn-back mirror, wherein when looking at a central portion of the screen, the drive circuit is disposed on one of the right and left sides in the interior of the housing and the projection optical unit is disposed on the other.</p> |
