A method of treating a specimen containing HCV (hepatitis C virus), etc. characterized by comprising treating the HCV-containing specimen with a treatment agent, which contains (1) an acidifying agent and (2) a protein denaturing agent or an amphoteric surfactant or a cationic surfactant containing a single-chain alkyl group having 10 or more carbon atoms together with a tertiary amine or a quaternary ammonium salt in its molecule, to thereby release the HCV antigen and disrupt an antibody bonded to the HCV antigen.
