The present invention relates to a scheduler (200) for a network element, in particular for a base station (10, 20, 30, 40) of a communications network (100), wherein resources required for transmitting data within said communications network (100) are scheduled and/or granted by said scheduler (200) depending on a request (300, 310) for said resources. Said scheduler (200) comprises a look ahead generator (220) for generating look ahead requests (310, 310') depending on requests (300) and/or on look ahead requests (310) previously received by said scheduler (200). The present invention also relates to a method of operating a scheduler (200).
