In ink-jet recording material with a substrate and recording layer(s), (a) the upper side of the recording layer is given a protective coating containing an organic sulfur compound forming complexes with metal ions and a boric acid compound and (b) the recording layer and/or protective coating contains a group VIb, VIIb, VIIIb, Ib or IIb transition metal mono- or dicarboxylate of a 4-12 carbon carboxylic acid. In ink-jet recording material with a substrate and recording layer(s), (a) the upper side of the recording layer is given a protective coating containing an organic sulfur compound (I) forming complexes with metal ions and a boric acid compound and (b) the recording layer and/or protective coating contains an organic compound (II) of formula (IIA) or (IIB). MeX (IIA) MeX2 (IIB) Me : a group VIb, VIIb, VIIIb, Ib or IIb transition metal; and X : the anion of a 4-12 C carboxylic acid.
