METHOD OF OPERATING A RADIOCOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM

A method is provided herein for operating a radio telecommunications system in response to transmission power levels of the system. The method includes the first step of transmitting signals between a base station and a radiotelephone unit. The method includes the second step of permitting the unit to access the system to participate i n communication services when the strength of the signals exceeds an access threshold, the access threshold being automatically established. The method includes the final step of preventing the unit from receiving communication services when the strength of the signals falls below an automatically established drop threshold, the drop threshold being less than the access threshold, and the drop threshold being concurrently operational with the access threshold.
