Use of organic polymer particles (I), comprising (before their expansion) graphite microparticles (II), as artificial aggregates to replace completely or partially natural aggregates (sand or gravel), for the manufacture of lightened building materials of mortar, gypsum plaster or concrete, where the weight percentage of (I) in (II) is 1-20. Independent claims are also included for: (1) light aggregates (III) ready to be used as artificial aggregates for the manufacture of mortars, gypsum plasters or concretes, comprising expanded (I) incorporating (II) at 1-20 (preferably 1-5) wt.%, where (I) are polystyrene, copolymers of styrene /ethylene unsaturated hydrocarbon and their mixtures, associated with one or more additives of surface-active agents, fluidifying or plasticizing agents, or air-entraining colloids, to increase their density and/or to reduce their electrostatism; (2) a lightened building material incorporating (III); and (3) a building material reduced of concrete type or mortar using cement as hydraulic binder and incorporating (III).
