PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder control type toroidal transmission, capable of high-accuracy and high-speed shift control in simple constitution. SOLUTION: This cylinder control type toroidal transmission is constructed to perform stepless transmission by input and output disks 41, 42, 43 serially arranged and concentrically journaled, a power roller 44 interposed between both opposite toroidal faces to perform transmission, and cylinders 44a 44b for driving the power roller 44 to move forward and backward, thereby controlling the angle of inclination. The rear ends of the cylinders 44a, 44b are provided with an interlocking rod 86 connecting pistons 85a, 85b to move forward and backward to detect the stroke, whereby an intended gear ratio can be directly obtained corresponding to the piston position control.
