<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a passive metal member having low contact resistance to carbon at a low price and realize the low contact resistance to carbon on the passive metal surface. <P>SOLUTION: The metallic separator for a fuel cell uses stainless steel, titanium, or a titanium base alloy as a base material, and has continuous projecting parts and recessed parts, thickness t of the base material is present in a range of 0.05 mm≤t≤0.2 mm, fine particles comprising at least one kind of carbide, nitride, and boride of at least one kind of W, Ti, Zr, V, Cr, and Mo, and having a mean particle size d of 0.1 μm≤d≤10 μm have the central position within d/2 μm from the surface of the base material, and embedded so as to project from the surface of the base material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
