PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To charge a rechargeable battery through portable electronic equipment and further charge a rechargeable battery, not loaded in portable electronic equipment and standing alone, using a single charging stand. SOLUTION: The charging stand includes a circuit board unit 15 and a switch control circuit 152b. The circuit board unit charges a rechargeable battery 60 loaded in a portable MD player 50 or a rechargeable battery 60 as is standing alone through battery terminals 17 and 18 that are connected with the portable MD player 50 or the rechargeable battery 60 as is standing alone when it is set on the charging stand 1. Based on the result of detection of whether or not the portable MD player 50 has been set, the switch control circuit changes the setting of a change-over switch 152a to switch the destination of power supply for charging between the portable MD player 50 and the rechargeable battery 60 as is standing alone.
