PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee desirable operation, when assisting opening operation of a rear door of a vehicle. SOLUTION: This stay damper 1 fills high pressure gas in a piston side chamber R1 and a rod side chamber R2 defined in a cylinder body 11 by a piston body 13 slidably stored in the cylinder body 11 while being held in a base end part of a rod body 12 inserted into the cylinder body 11 so as to be capable of protruding and retreating; and has a gradually changing part 14a (14b) formed on the inner periphery of the cylinder body 11 so as to run in the moving direction of the piston body 13 and gradually reducing the depth in an optional area S1 (S2) of a groove 14 for functioning as a bypass passage for bypassing the piston body 13.
