PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable aligning operation corresponding to each of a system for moving a paper loading means in the direction crossing the direction of paper delivery orthogonally for shift and a system for shifting a paper itself. SOLUTION: When a tip part of a paper reaches a position where a delivery sensor is arranged, this sheet aligning device determines the direction of shift of paper, namely, front shift or rear shift (S102). In the case of front shift, a second aligning member 311 is moved to a front shift stand-by position (S103). In the case of rear shift (S104), a first aligning member 310 is moved to a rear shift stand-by position (S105) and is moved to delivery central position because there is no shift operation unless it is rear shift (S106). When the delivery sensor is turned off, a paper is delivered from a sheet post-processing device (S107), and drop of paper ends (S108), aligning operation is performed (S109). Upon completion of aligning operation (S110), the first and second aligning members are moved to positions where just before paper aligning operation is started for stand-by to wait for next operation.
