PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely and surely change a tool in a non-machining area in the back upper area of a head stock. SOLUTION: This tool changer of the machining center changes a tool into one stored in a tool magazine by a tool transfer device reciprocating the tool attached to a tool main spindle, which is rotatably provided in a tool head stock approaching and separating by moving in the Z axis direction of the head stock, between the head stock and a tool magazine. This tool changer of the machining center is characterized in having a splash guard with a window covered with an openable/closable shutter for partitioning from the machining area in the tool headstock side, in the back upper area of the head stock; shifting the head stock to the head stock side; intruding the tool main spindle into the back upper space from the window; and changing the tool in the back upper space.
