PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscopic apparatus capable of making the speech recognition effective only in a period of time desired by an operator without requiring any manual switch operation. SOLUTION: When a voice signal is inputted from a microphone 30, a speech recognition circuit 40 converts the voice signal to a character code. If the character string indicated by the character code matches a prescribed keyword, the speech recognition circuit 40 checks whether the character string to be converted thereafter matches the character string corresponding to any one command defined in a command table.
