The device has a plate (3) for carrying a breast of a female patient, and an image acquisition unit for imaging the breast. A C-shaped arm includes a base body with two main grip protruding from its sides. A protruding area (12) is arranged at a distance to an end side of the plate. The protruding area is used as a secondary grip or back rest for the patient. Another area is provided on a covering arrangement of the arm.
