<p>This invention provides a liquid crystal display device that comprises two parallel substrates with a pair of electrodes disposed thereon, and, in a gap defined by the two substrates, two alignment control films, a liquid crystal composition comprising a liquid crystal and a polymerizable compound, which is polymerizable upon exposure to light, heat or a combination of heat with light, the polymerizable compound being polymerized after disposition. When the liquid crystal has negative permittivity anisotropy, the alignment control films are homeotropic alignment control films which have been subjected to rubbing treatment so that the rubbing directions are parallel to each other, and only liquid crystal molecules at a specific place within one pixel exhibit spray alignment in such a state that no voltage is applied. The liquid crystal display device has high-speed response.</p> |
