A method for forming an embossing member of one or more metal sheets (2, 2a, 2b), the surface of at least one of said sheets being provided with one or more printing zones (5) arranged on the printing surface (3) for producing a diffractive pattern on a substrate, and the method comprising joining one or more metal sheets by welding at edges (6, 7). The embossing member is formed by welding at least a first edge (6) and a second edge (7) together on the side (4) opposite to the printing surface (3).
