An image processing apparatus (100) comprising a steepening amount calculating part (110), a contour shifting amount calculating part (120), an integrated correction amount calculating part (130) and an image generating part (140) wherein an image signal (F1) is acquired; and a correction image signal (F9) is generated such that if a waveform, which is representative of a change of a differentiated value of the image signal (F1) relative to an image space, is symmetrical in the contour area of the image represented by the image signal (F1), then there exist intersection points of waveforms representative of changes of the values in the image spaces represented by the image signal (F1) and the correction image signal (F9), and the sizes (S1,S2) of the two areas defined by the two waveforms and sandwiching the intersection points are different from each other.
