PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device of simple structure capable of absorbing a load to be applied to a steering column. SOLUTION: In this steering device 1, an energy absorbing plate 2 is provided between a car body 20 and the steering column 3, and the steering column 3 can freely move in relation to the car body 20 in the case wherein an axial load is input to the steering column 3, and the energy absorbing plate 2 is deformed to absorb the load. A deforming pin 5 is provided to deform the energy absorbing plate 2 and to freely turn in relation to the energy absorbing plate 2. In this case, the deforming pin 5 is turned, and brought in contact with the energy absorbing plate 2 in any one of a first slide-contact surface 50 and a second slide-contact surface 52, and the load can be variably absorbed by turning the deforming pin 5.
