PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arithmetic processing unit capable of miniaturizing hardware configuration of a context storage part used for context switch and performing the context switch in a short time. SOLUTION: This arithmetic processing unit comprises register files rf0-rf3 used for execution of threads, a context cache 105 storing contexts stored in the register files rf0-rf3, and a context bus 200 mutually connecting the register files rf0-rf3 to a cache area. When context switch is requested to any one of the register files rf0-rf3, the context bus 200 transmits the contexts stored in the context cache 105 to the register files rf0-rf3 and transmits the contexts stored in the register files rf0-rf3 to the cache area of the context cache 105.
