PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module capable of thinning thereof. SOLUTION: The optical module 1, which has an optical transmission medium 3 attached thereto and is used for giving/receiving optical signals via the optical transmission medium, comprises a substrate 10 in which a relative arrangement is set so that one side surface becomes approximately parallel to the normal direction of the end surface of the optical transmission medium, a reflection plate 11 which is arranged on the one side surface side of the substrate and an optical element 13 which is disposed in a space formed between the substrate and the reflection plate so as to turn the light incident/exit surface to the reflection plate. The optical module is constituted so that the optical signal emitted from the optical element is reflected by the reflection plate, is guided to the end surface of the optical transmission medium, or the optical signal emitted from the optical transmission medium is reflected by the reflection plate, is guided to the light incident/exit surface of the optical element.
