PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spongeous sintered compact superior in compressive strength made from titanium or a titanium alloy. SOLUTION: The spongeous sintered compact superior in compressive strength made from titanium or the titanium alloy has: a three-dimensional network structure having continuous holes which are opened at the surface and continue to inner holes; a porosity of 50 to 98%; and a composition comprising, by mass%, 0.1-0.6% carbon, and the balance titanium with unavoidable impurities, wherein the content of oxygen among the unavoidable impurities is specified into 0.6% or less.
