In a gable topped carton made from thermoplastics coated cardboard or paper, one of the top closure panels which has a triangular shaped panel 5 in the closed carton is provided towards its outer end with a cut 8 which penetrates the thermoplastics coating and which extends substantially across the entire width of the panel. The thermoplastic coating outwardly of the cut has an inferior adhesion to the cardboard or paper than elsewhere in the carton. The one top closure panel is moved outwardly of the carton to open to same and form a pouring spout. The carton is closed by heat sealing and the thermoplastic coating which was outward of the cut in the original blank remains within the heat sealed seam after the carton has been opened. The cardboard may be treated with a silicon preparation, e.g. silicon oil, or wax or a wax mixture to achieve the inferior adhesion. |
