[Also in Division B2] An aqueous composition for coating paper comprises 100 parts by weight of a mineral clay filler, 1-3 parts by weight of polyvinyl alcohol, 7-12 parts by weight of a synthetic polymer, 0À5-1À5 parts by weight of glyoxal, and 0À05- 0-5 parts by weight of a water-retention aid, the weight ratio of polyvinyl alcohol to synthetic polymer being no greater than 0À35 :1 and the solids content of said composition being from 35-65%. In the examples the polymer is a styrene-butadiene copolymer and the waterretention aid is carboxymethyl cellulose.</p> |
