PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength plate easily manufactured and causing desired phase difference in a use wavelength band and exhibiting high zero-order light transmittance when a periodical structure having a cycle ofλ/2<P<λin the most short wavelengthλin the use wavelength band is used for the wavelength plate. SOLUTION: The wavelength plate 10 is formed by using a plurality of wavelength plate elements each having the rugged periodical structure ofλ/2<P<λ, determining the structural dimensions of each of wavelength plate elements 11 and 12 so as to increase the light transmittance and combining the wavelength plate elements with each other.
