According to a previously known method for producing an optical component made of quartz glass, a blank is provided which has the overdimensioned outer contour of the optical component that is to be produced, said blank is subjected to a thermal treatment, and the component is then obtained from the blank by removing the excess dimension. The aim of the invention is to create a method for producing an optical component, which is based on said method, is inexpensive, and offers a great degree of homogeneity while providing a blank from which such optical components can be obtained. Said aim is achieved by a method for providing the blank, said method encompassing steps in which a basic member is produced from a homogeneous, transparent quartz glass, the basic member is surrounded by and fused with an SiO<SUB>2</SUB> coating glass produced in a separate step, and the fused compound composed of the basic member and the coating glass is subjected to the thermal treatment. The blank (6) that is suitable for carrying out the inventive method is embodied as a fused compound comprising a basic member (1) made of homogeneous, transparent quartz glass and an SiO<SUB>2</SUB> coating glass (5) made of quartz glass having a low degree of homogeneity. |
