In producing an animal feed, oil and/or fat is mixed, in the absence of water, steam or condensed steam, with flakes of oil-seed waste, from which natural oil has been extracted by a solvent, such as benzine, in a suitable extractor and still containing some solvent, which facilitates impregnation of the flakes by the added oil and/or fat. The oil and/or fat may be thinned with solvent before being added to, e.g. sprayed on to, the flakes in the extractor. The treated flakes are then passed through a device, e.g. a toasting device, which expels the solvent, and then through a cooling drum, from which the animal feed is discharged in a finely divided form. Waste from the following products may be used: cocoa beans, palm kernels, copra, rape seed, sunflower seed, sesame seed, cotton seed, linseed, soya beans, groundnuts and maize. Oils and fats e.g. hydrogenated, from whales, cattle, pigs, slaughter houses, fish and soyabeans may be used. |
