<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can adjust a color in each color image with high accuracy and to provide a method for adjusting an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus 1, a test image is irradiated with light having spectral characteristics according to the reflection characteristics of each color image, for example, a cyan color image is irradiated with red light and a yellow color image is irradiated with blue light, when each color image included in the test image formed for color adjustment is optically detected by a detecting sensor 21. As the detection output of reflected light corresponding to each color image can be determined to an appropriate value, the position of each color image can be detected with high accuracy based on the detection output of the reflected light.
