A photodetector (9) detects dispersion of light from a fiber (1) via a diffraction grating (6). A beam splitter (3) divides light from the fiber to optical paths (C1,C2). A halfwave plate (5) varies polarization direction of light in one optical path into polarization direction of light in another optical path. A mirror (4) deflects one optical path to overlap incident areas of light passing along both optical paths on the diffraction grating. An independent claim is also included for a microspectroscope.
