The locking joint, especially for the positioning of a back or foot section on sitting and lying furniture, has a first arm (1) for fastening on the frame side and coupled via a return motion locked gearing to a second arm (2) adjustable in different angular positions. A locking toothed ring concentric to the joint axis (3) is fixed on the first joint arm and has tooth flanks protruding in the axial direction and sloping in one direction, and in the engaged position meshes with a locking toothed ring element which can be lifted in the axial direction against a return spring pressure and is connected to the second joint arm with torque locking.
