<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus by which stable density detection is possible with little variation in density by stabilizing the distance between a density detecting means and an image carrier by preventing riding up of a belt member in a position carrying out a density detection by a density detecting means and soiling of a facing supporting roller. <P>SOLUTION: As shown in Fig 5, the width of the roller is made narrower than in other supporting rollers in the supporting roller 10 facing the density detecting means S and riding up on a guide is prevented at the supporting roller 510 and at the same time, a restricting member 512 is provided to prevent meandering of an intermediate transfer belt 501. Furthermore, A more stable density detection can be carried out by preventing variation in the diameter of the supporting roller 510 by providing a cleaning member 513 (Fig 7) for foreign matter/soiling attachment to the supporting roller 510 and a cleaning member 514 (Fig 8) cleaning a back surface of an intermediate transfer belt 501. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
