<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cubic boron nitride sintered body realizing a prolonged life in a low-speed intermittent cutting and wet cutting. <P>SOLUTION: The cubic boron nitride sintered body is constituted of 45-80 volume% of cBN phase: a binding phase comprising at least one kind selected from the group consisting of a metal, nitride, boride, carbide, or oxide of 4a, 5a, or 6a group element of the periodic table, Al or Si, and a mutual solid solution of them: and the balance; and contains Ti; and the cubic boron nitride sintered body, of which the intensity ratio (It/Ic) showing the ratio of It to Ic is 0.08-0.3 when the intensity of diffraction line of metal Ti at around 2θ=40.2 degree in X ray diffraction measurement using CuKα line is expressed by It and the maximum intensity of diffraction line of cubic boron nitride is expressed by Ic, exhibits superior cutting performance in the low-speed intermittent cutting and the wet cutting. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
