<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element exhibiting good luminescence characteristics and drive durability. <P>SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element comprises at least one organic layer including a light emitting layer sandwiched by a pair of electrodes wherein at least one organic layer contains at least one kind of metal complex having a ligant of three or more seats, and the organic layer containing a metal complex and/or other organic layer contains a compound represented by general formula (I).
