<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable-length coding apparatus which can process more speedily, even when dependent relations exist among a plurality of syntax elements. <P>SOLUTION: The variable-length coding apparatus generates coded data from syntax elements by inputting image data in block units, and comprises a storage means for temporarily storing the image data; a first syntax-element computing means for computing first syntax elements from the image data simultaneously with the storage of the image data into the storing means; a first coding means for generating the coded data of the first syntax elements from the first syntax-element values; a second syntax-element computing means for reading out the image data stored to the storing means and computing the second syntax-element values from the image data; a second coding means for generating the coded data of the second syntax elements, based on the first syntax-element values and the second syntax-element values; and a combination means for combining the coded data of the first and second syntax elements. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
