PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autofocus system capable of adjusting the position, the size and the shape of an AF area being an AF object range, wherein the space saving of an operation member is attained by using one operation member to adjust both the size and the shape of the AF area. SOLUTION: A joy stick 62 being an AF area operation part, an AF frame size/shape adjusting knob 64 and an AF frame adjusting and selecting switch 66 are arranged on a focus demand 26 for autofocus operation of a television camera. The AF frame size/shape adjusting knob 64 is used to adjust both the size and the shape of the AF frame (AF area), and which object between them is changed is selected by the AF frame adjusting and selecting switch 66.
