PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of a storage device by making the best of features of different types of volumes. SOLUTION: The control part 3 of a storage device 1 constructs a virtual volume 7 on a memory 6. The virtual volume 7 is configured of a low speed volume 4 and a high speed volume 5, and has a capacity of the same size as that of the low speed volume 4. When the application program 2A of a host 2 requests the update of data (S1), write data are written in each volume 4 and 5 (S2, S3), respectively. A life tag showing the storage period of data is preliminarily set in the virtual volume 7. After the lapse of the storage period, the data are erased from the high speed volume 5 (S4). Data of the low speed volume 4 are maintained as they are. While the data are stored in the high speed volume 5, access from the host 2 is processed by using data of the high speed volume 5.
