PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus where a cleaning means is formed to be as small-sized and compact as possible, and also which is effectively miniaturized as a whole. SOLUTION: The cleaning means 34 has cleaning members 36 and 37 provided in a main body 35, and an actuator 46 provided also in the main body 35. The actuator 46 is the one using a piezoelectric element and is formed to be comparatively small. Therefore, the cleaning means 34 is formed like a box and arranged in narrow space between image carriers 10Y, 10M, 10C and 10K and an exposure line head. First and second right and left guide rails 53 and 59 guiding the right-and-left direction of the main body 35 and an energizing member 60 for applying voltage to the piezoelectric element are provided in an exposure line head unit 32.
