PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coloring electrolysis apparatus which is inexpensive, and makes a colored film particularly having a rainbow color stably formed on titanium or a titanium alloy, through a simply controllable operation, and to provide a coloring electrolysis method. SOLUTION: This coloring electrolysis apparatus has an electrolysis vessel 1 for retaining an electrolytic solution 2, and small chambers 4 arranged therein. The electrolysis method comprises charging the titanium or titanium alloy of an article to be electrolyzed, into the small chambers 4, and anodizing it. Then, the apparatus easily increases or decreases voltage or a current to be applied to the article step by step, to form oxide films with different thicknesses on the article. As a result, the oxide films exhibit an interference color according to the thickness of the films to form the colored film having the rainbow color. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
